who is Steve ohnsman?
Born in New York City, I grew up just northwest of the city in Monsey, NY, located in Rockland County. After graduating from Ramapo High School, I attended Wilmington College of Ohio, a Quaker college, and received a B.A in Religion & Philosophy. I then attended Drew Theological Seminary in Madison, Nj, focusing on New Testament Studies and Homiletics. I graduated with my Master of Divinity in 1986 and have served churches in New York, New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Steve has served as a pastor, campus minister, college chaplain, and professor since 1984. He has been the pastor of Calvary United Church of Christ (an Open & Affirming Congregation) in Reading, PA since 1999. Steve is active in the community, serving on numerous boards and organizations in Berks County.
I received my Doctor of Ministry degree in 1994 from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH, with a focus on Christian Ethics. My final project was called "Teaching the Ethics of Jesus in a Cross-Cultural Setting". In 2015 I graduated with my Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership from Alvernia University, located in Reading, PA. My dissertation was titled "The Call to Ordination Across Denominations". I have been a guest lecturer in the Philosophy Department at N. Kentucky University, and an adjunct in the Religious Studies Departments of Albright College (PA) and Alvernia University (PA).
I am a husband, a father, and a pastor - in that order. I love to travel, sing and play guitar, and help coach our local high school wrestling team. I love God and want to help pastors and congregations on their journey.
